| Miss Black Expo |
Local mentor Kanisha Allen has been selected by the OBSERVER Media Group as its Miss BLACK EXPO 2010. As “queen of the Expo” Ms. Allen will participate in a number of events activities at the 2010 Capital City BLACK EXPO, being held at the Sacramento Convention Center February 19-21. Described as a “go-getter,” Ms. Allen is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Government Journalism. One of the criteria for selection as Miss BLACK EXPO is academic achievement. Ms. Allen is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Government. In pursuit of her career, she has interned with top market news stations, Good Day Sacramento, NBC 6 in Miami, Florida, and KCRA Channel 3. Ms. Allen is a member of the National Political Science Honor Society Epsilon Psi Chapter. She also gives back to the community as a mentor with the Odyssey Mentoring Program. She is currently a model for Ebony of Essence, a line of skin care products for women of color. She counts being crowned Miss Black Sacramento 2008 as one of her greatest accomplishments. As Ms. Black Sacramento, Ms. Allen volunteered with organizations such as Shriner’s Hospital and the Salvation Army. She has also been a keynote speaker and hostess for such local events as Go Girl Go, Zero Tolerance for Underage Drinking, ERI Aspire and the D.I.V.A Conference. |
