30 UNDER 30

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson will address the wildly popular 30 under 30 breakfast patrons at this year's Black Business Expo.

The Observer Media Group will honor the achievements and leadership skills of thirty (30) African American men and women, in the Sacramento region, under the age of 30 years old.  Categories for awardees include exceptional accomplishments in the professional fields of Business, Religion, Sports, Arts/Media, Public Safety, Education, Community Service, Politics and Health Care.

The breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th.  The event kicks-off the second day of the Black Business Expo at the Sacramento Convention Center.

"The 30 under 30 breakfast gives us an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of new leaders and rising stars," said Larry Lee, co-chairman of the Black Business Expo, "At such a young age they are already making positive contributions in our communities. And they should be encouraged to keep up the good work."

This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is a renowned scholar, ordained Baptist minister and public intellectual.  He teaches Theology, English and African American studies at Georgetown University.

Professor Dyson has penned books on social effects of hip hop music and its most influential figures.  One of his most controversial books titled, Is Bill Cosby Right? questions many societal assertions made by the popular actor comedian.

Know What I mean is Professor Dyson's current book now available.  It is a critical study of hip hop music, addressing issues ranging from the music's creative expression to the global exposure, commercialization and politicization of rap music.

Professor Dyson will greet patrons and sign books immediately following the 30 under 30 breakfast.
